Call of Duty Pro reveals why Vanguard needs to remove SBMM

Activision’s Call of Duty games use skill-based matchmaking, or SBMM, which ensures new players don’t end up facing the best of the best online. It’s a good way to make it easier for players to play games, but not everyone is a fan of the practice. In a recent Youtube video, Call of Duty Pro Seth “Scump” Abner revealed he’d love to see Call of Duty: The Vanguard do away with the practice. Scump has been blunt about this in the past, but in this case, he revealed that SBMM also prevents him from making the type of “pub-stomp” videos that many fans seem to enjoy.

“See, a lot of people ask me, ‘Why don’t you do videos like this anymore?’ You know what, the short and simple answer to that, folks, is skill-based matchmaking, ”said Scump. same skill level. It just doesn’t happen. I know there are ways around this, people are getting around it. I don’t, however. That’s the sad reality, because I know people love pub-stomps like this, but it’s just not really a thing, unless you finish the system and get around it. We will see next year what we can do. Believe me, I wish I could make videos like this. ”

Last year, players were dismayed to find that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War SBMM employee, and many have taken to Twitter to voice their frustrations. Scump was particularly unhappy with the decision, claiming that “SBMM does not belong to Call of Duty”. However, in the heat of this controversy, Treyarch Martin Donlon tweets a fan, revealing that every match since Call of Duty 4 has implemented SBMM in one way or another. Fans might not always be happy with the way SBMM is implemented, but it’s been on the show for a very long time and it’s not a recent addition. Considering this, it seems unlikely that it will go away anytime soon, but we might see some tweaks for the new game!

Call of Duty: The Vanguard is slated for release on November 5 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, and PC. You can check out all of our previous coverage of the game here.
