Goalkeeper David Ochoa was the hero of RSL, saving 11th Kelyn Rowe’s kick from the shootout before Justen Glad scored the winning kick with a post and a nice rebound. RSL, the seventh-seeded Western Conference, will now travel to third-seeded Sporting Kansas City in the Conference Semifinals on Sunday (12 p.m. ET | ABC, ESPN Deportes).

The first half involved the Sounders doing everything they could to involve Jordan Morris – in his first start since the 2020 MLS Cup after a long trip home from an ACL tear – but neither team did. ‘gets shot on goal. This included an incredible streak of noises in the 15th minute, in which Morris, Brad Smith and Cristian Roldan all had blocked shots en route to RSL to extinguish this threat.

Although Morris was most involved in the Seattle offense, Fredy Montero had a great opportunity to get the Sounders on the scoreboard as half-time approached, but put his attempt in the 36th. minute away from the target.

Seattle looked to turn things around early in the second half by bringing in Raul Ruidiaz, and things got a little more positive for the hosts, with Nicolas Benezet handling the game’s first shot in the 47th minute. Morris also had a chance in the 50th minute on a full Sounders attack pushing the numbers forward, but pulled his shot well over the crossbar to leave the home fans wanting.

Then, in the 73rd minute, still with only one shot on goal recorded, Ruidiaz unleashed a speculative shot from a distance which RSL keeper David Ochoa jumped on, grateful to see the potential opener bounce back where the crossbar meets the post.

The pattern continued as the game stretched into overtime. A header from Roldan in the 113th minute, assisted by Lodeiro, whom Ochoa was able to save, then a handball cry in the 117th minute in front of the RSL goal on Justen Glad which was not awarded.

In the PK streak, Pablo Ruiz was able to redo his attempt, which was blocked by Stefan Frei but was deemed aided by an encroachment, and his teams converted all PKs to sudden death. Then Rowe was blocked on her sixth round attempt, and Glad got her attempt to enter after hitting both Freis, then a post, then the other to enter the shocking conclusion.
